New Year's Partygoers Urged to Wrap Up Warm with Snowfall Expected Throughout the UK
Forecasters are saying a chilly start to the new year, with snowfall anticipated over large parts of the UK. Those celebrating are being urged to bundle up as bitterly cold temperatures are predicted for New Year's Eve.
Festive Plans Proceed Amid Alerts
Edinburgh's iconic Hogmanay festivities are expected to take place, a contrast to last year's calling-off. This comes despite yellow warnings for snow in northern Scotland.
"A cold New Year's Eve night for those out celebrating, so warmer clothes will be necessary," noted the national forecaster.
Celebrations Under Mostly Clear but Frosty Skies
Across the UK, the weather is set to be perfect for fireworks displays, with dry conditions and clear skies. Temperatures are forecast to be cold, making additional clothing a necessity, as per forecasters.
Further north, skies will be cloudier, but this is not anticipated to impact visibility for viewing fireworks. "There is no expectation of low cloud, mist or murk, so you should be able to see fireworks, just not stars," added one forecaster.
Extensive Weather Alerts for New Year's Day
As we enter Friday, weather warnings are active across Northern Ireland and from Wales, across parts of the north-west, the West Midlands and reaching London and the majority of the south-east of England.

Readings Set to Fall Further
Going into the new year, it will be "cold regardless of where you are," stated forecaster Simon Partridge. The weather are set to fall even more as wintry showers and strong winds are likely to batter the north of the country.
Approximately 10cm of snow could accumulate to have settled in some areas by Friday morning, reaching up to 30cm on the top roads and uplands.
Public Health Alerts Released
In addition, serious cold weather health warnings have been issued for the north-east and north-west of England. These are expected to continue until noon on 5 January, with temperatures expected to fall to between 3C and 5C.
Officials explained this meant the weather was expected to cause significant impacts across medical and care provision. This encompasses a likely increase in the fatality numbers among vulnerable individuals or those 65 and older.
