Star Refutes Anti-Vax Views After Lending His Voice To Contentious Coronavirus Documentary
The acclaimed actor has lent his narration to a feature-length documentary that questions the legitimacy of vaccinations and lauds one-time health official Robert F Kennedy Jr.
The Feature's Contentious Origins
Titled "Plague of Corruption," the project is adapted from a popular book written by Judy Mikovits, who rose to infamy during the pandemic for claims that the illness was linked to a faulty batch of the influenza shot.
The book's co-author, Kent Heckenlively, has also written books with conspiracy-prone figure a known commentator. Heckenlively took to social media hailing Neeson's involvement in the film.
An Unequivocal Statement
Representatives for the actor have released a comment firmly refuting implications that he holds anti-immunization views.
"Everyone can recognize that corruption may occur within the drug industry, but that cannot be confused with being against vaccines," the statement reads. "He is not, and remains not, anti-vax. His extensive work with Unicef highlights his enduring support for worldwide vaccination initiatives."
The statement noted that the actor had no hand in the documentary's editorial content and that questions about its assertions ought to go to the producers.
Key Claims Within the Feature
According to the documentary, the narration read by Neeson features several strong statements:
- It suggests that pro-immunization voices have called for "blind obedience" to health authorities.
- It argues that "research has become deeply influenced by politics."
- RFK Jr is interviewed stating, "The major issue with vaccines is that they simply are not properly vetted."
- The film also criticizes stay-at-home orders, saying they caused mental anguish that led to the loss of thousands of lives.
- On the topic of Covid vaccines, it mentions a report that they were "rushed to market" and seen as "hazardous tests."
Past Controversy and Ongoing Disputes
It also references a past television report about AIDS medication trials on children, which was later the focus of a formal apology by the network for unbalanced reporting.
Last month, RFK Jr directed the national health agency to alter its long-held position that there is no connection between immunizations and autism. This supposed link is also referenced in the documentary, contrary to a new report from the WHO stating no connection has been found.
A Past Record of Advocacy
Contrasting the documentary's tone, Neeson has formerly shown strong support for vaccines in his capacity as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador.
Previously, he called vaccines as "an incredible triumph," stating that "The conversation about vaccines in the past few years has forgotten how much positive impact they have done... It is perhaps one of the biggest collective achievements in history."
The documentary ends with Neeson's voice proclaiming, "This marks not the end of our narrative. Rather, it is the beginning of a different phase."
