Supporters Demand Arrest of Man Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Passionate supporters of Ariana Grande are demanding that a man who jumped a barrier and grabbed the actress during yesterday's Wicked: For Good debut be arrested or removed from Singapore.
A circulating video depicts the individual from Australia bypassing media personnel and charging at Grande while the performers made its way down a promenade flanked by fans.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo quickly pulled the stunned actress away from Mr Wen, who was observed being led away of the gathering by security officers.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "free after being taken in", though legal records showed that he was due to appear on Friday morning. It is unknown if he was charged.
Pattern of Disruptions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Troll Most Hated", has crashed a concert or event. His Instagram account contains clips of him interrupting other high-profile occasions, including breaching the performance area at the pop singer's Sydney concert in June this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers performance in the area last winter.
"Steps should be implemented applied against him as this is obviously a legal violation," stated an Instagram commenter, in a message to a video Mr Wen shared of his behavior.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" one Instagram user wrote.
Followers Voice Worry Over Ariana's Past Trauma
Many supporters blamed Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had spoken of experiencing trauma-related anxiety after a suicide bomb attack at the end of her 2017 show in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and injuring hundreds.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" commented one more comment on Instagram.
Some attendees also criticised guards at the premiere for not being adequately prepared; while different individuals called for online networks to block Mr Wen's uploads.
Reaction and Event Details
In footage circulating online, Grande seemed shocked when she was approached by the individual. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted consoling her while Mr Wen was escorted away by security.
Grande has not issued a statement on the situation, and the premiere activities continued without further issues.
Numerous of attendees had assembled in a mass of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific launch in a Singapore venue, including some who had waited for as long as many hours before it started.
The motion picture, to be launched on 21 November, is the sequel of a two-film adaptation of the well-known Broadway and West End show Wicked, which revolves around the unlikely relationship between two contrasting witches.
The show itself is a adaptation of the classic children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was adorned in a champagne pink sequin dress at the premiere while Erivo, who portrays the wicked witch, wore a black tube gown featuring roses.
They were accompanied by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the top-earning movie of the previous year in the UK, and scored 10 award recognitions, earning several for excellent wardrobe and set decoration.
