The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Reveals He Knows How Pluribus Will Conclude... For Now.

The acclaimed writer-producer could not have predicted that the Apple TV+ show would emerge as a massive hit. “The viewers have been incredible,” Gilligan says. “I was surprised by the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

With the first season of the acclaimed sci-fi show coming to an end—and a second season already in development—the writers' room opened up about the audience reaction and whether it will influence the future direction of Pluribus.

Regarding the Incredible Audience Reaction

Anyone might to get swayed by the constant speculation and fan theories surrounding Pluribus. He is making a conscious effort to steer clear of all that.

“It feels like force fed something incredibly sweet and being in a state of bliss,” he describes. “It's the greatest thing, but I hear about it anecdotally, and that's by design. Never in my life looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a bottomless pit I know I would fall into and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

In spite of trying to stay away, there’s no way to avoid the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to take it in stride and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We don't try to tailor anything,” says Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not influenced by what people are saying.”

“It's wiser to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan adds.

The Big Question: Will the creator Have a Plan for the Ending of Pluribus?

Given that the writers are not listening by fan response, does that mean they already know how Pluribus will finally conclude? Essentially yes… with some caveats.

“There are some compelling concepts about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan reveals. “however, we remain prepared to throw out a good idea for a more brilliant plan. That philosophy has guided us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we find a more perfect path and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

Alternatively, if they hit a wall, Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to use as a backup.

“I constantly suggest that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and we're in there,” Smith jokes, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Alternatively, why not reference the legendary finales?

“I'd love for Carol to wake up in bed next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV+.
