Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect responsible for some of the most iconic looks worn by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has sadly died at the age of 80.

His reputation was built on his defined forms and dramatic aesthetics, such as the soft-colored suits that became famous from the iconic band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "the song Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement across their platforms."

His passing follows shortly after he presented his latest collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. The performer Lily Allen modelled a dress that paid homage to the notorious black velvet "revenge dress" once worn by the late Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price moved to London at the start of the 1960s to study at the renowned Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he began designing men's fashion at Stirling Copper and was responsible for the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger sported during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in the late sixties.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show was launched by creations worn by model Jerry Hall, who also wore the marriage dress Price designed for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price designed the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to blend menswear and womenswear along with his technical proficiency in shaping body-hugging looks established him as a "genuine original," according to the UK's fashion authority.

By the 1990s, he began working on pieces for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, such as several ensembles for her American tour following her marriage.

With a vocation that covered more than five decades, Price staged what would be his last show in London recently in collaboration with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Defined Shapes: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Dramatic Impact: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The fashion world mourns the loss to a authentic original whose impact on style and culture remains deeply ingrained.
