The Game UN:Me: An Psychological Horror That Blends Silent Hill with Among Us Mechanics

The latest Day of the Devs digital showcase revealed a number of fascinating upcoming titles, but one especially has seized attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo experience appears to blend the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction heart of Among Us.

"It's a unique game where a girl containing multiple human souls within her needs to flee from a labyrinth of the mind," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Fractured Mind

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed female protagonist who appears to be of teenage years. Inside her reside four distinct personas, each with their own fears and drives. These souls can take over spontaneously, releasing their innermost terrors upon her without warning.

Judging by showcased footage, much of the narrative takes place within a creepy hospital, while additional clips show the protagonist navigating a abandoned church.

A World of Personal Horror

"What are you afraid of? What causes you uncomfortable?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "High places. Small rooms. People in power. Elements that seem trivial to others can activate something primal within us. This game explores that idea — anxieties that are unique to each person."

The core mechanic revolves around controlling whichever soul surfaces at a particular time. However, these souls will change against your will during gameplay. During exploration, each soul's anxieties become amplified and assault the protagonist one after another. When the soul changes, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Eerie Visuals and a Fatal Decision

Initially, UN:Me shares striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill franchise. The hospital is populated by orderlies all sporting the same face, with unnervingly wide smiles. Patients in the waiting room have enormous flowers where their heads should be. Flowers are a recurring theme, contrasting organic elegance with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me presents a singular twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls haunting the heroine is the "true" one. "All four souls claims that the physical form belongs to them," explains a creator. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is real."

Once players have deduced a soul is fake, they are forced to destroy it. But, since every entity can lie or hide the reality, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.

"Maybe you've already destroyed the real [soul] with your own hands," the narration states. "The final entity remaining could be a fraud. Either way, your decisions are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed launch window, but it is can be follow on digital storefronts.
