This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.
It might not have been at the same level as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the beginning of a second term in office.
“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life away from worry.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, donated by a local firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “six seven” – originating from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The craze became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently declared “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Peaceful Retirement
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It embodies the character of Miami: joyful, diverse, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Every time, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
